Anica Pederson May 2024

I am so grateful that I was able to see so many of you in March. God in His graciousness has already brought us half-way through our third school term. That means only a month until I move to the Rafiki Village in Liberia to be RICE Dean at the teacher training college there. Please pray that God continues to prepare my heart and mind to move and gives me courage to step into rather big shoes!

We are at the oldest Rafiki Village here in Accra, and with that comes a lot of maintenance upkeep. We played musical classrooms with our teachers at the beginning of this term so that our maintenance team could start working on a new roof for our Early Childhood building. Please pray for work to be done swiftly and safely.

Help! I lost my roof!

Our residents continue to grow in joy and service. A group of our girls was asked to sing for their youth service at church. Two of them are mentored in guitar by another missionary here, and they lead their sister well. We worked on getting some harmony into the chorus, and it was great to hear them lift their voices to their Heavenly Father.

Practicing for church

Our oldest students are taking turns going to a special needs school in our neighborhood for a service day. It was a testament to how the Lord is using the curriculum and the teachers he has placed at our school. One of our boys was able to read a story to a rapt audience, emulating teachers he has had for years who have read to him. Still others very seriously worked on pointing out numbers and letters. Thank God for these opportunities to develop serving hearts in our students and to teach them that God will use what He has given them to serve His kingdom.

Taking the ABCs very seriously

In RICE the students recently finished an original ‘Naughty Animal’ story influenced by Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. The students turned in a variety of stories featuring naughty monkeys, cows, and even bed bugs! I was so encouraged by the creativity of their stories and see how far they have come in a year.

Who doesn’t love storytime?

The Mischievous Monkey story

I am so thankful that God is not hemmed in by what I think is possible. I am so thankful for you all and the prayers that you lift to the Lord on my behalf.
