Tonny
Tonny, a Grade 5B teacher at the Rafiki School in Uganda, has lived a remarkable journey of God’s grace and guidance. He came to Rafiki at just three years old, a little boy unsure of what the future held, but he remembers the care and love that welcomed him: “I can’t forget…there’s so many toys and there’s one truck that has my name on it.” Growing up at Rafiki, Tonny faced challenges and moments of rebellion, but he eventually recognized the gift of his education and scholarship, realizing that the opportunities he received were far greater than he had imagined.
On August 12, 2012, Tonny accepted Christ, a decision sparked by the faithful witness of a Rafiki Missionary during a soccer match. That encounter set the course for his life, and he now pours out the same love and guidance to his students. He teaches not only academic subjects but God’s Word, embedding Scripture and wisdom into every lesson. He states that Proverbs 3:1-6 guides his approach as he desires his students to carry God’s teachings with them for life.
Tonny also points his students to real-life examples of godly living, often sharing the story of Rosemary Jensen, encouraging them to follow the example of her love, care, and devotion to God. He views teaching as a calling, acknowledging the divine guidance that led him to this vocation. His own experiences of grace, second chances, and mentorship drive him to nurture the next generation, ensuring they know God, embrace the Word, and live faithfully.
Reflecting on his life, Tonny is deeply grateful to those who have supported him. He says simply, “I count myself someone who is blessed by God.” Today, he channels that blessing into discipleship, walking alongside his students to help them grow academically, spiritually, and morally, embodying the very care and guidance he received at Rafiki.
