“And David had success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him” (1 Samuel 18:14).

Hello again from Zambia. We trust you are well and that you are finding the grace of God sufficient in your lives to sustain you through trials. David knew the grace of God since he had to endure many trials for sixteen years after being selected as king until he became the king of the Israelites. We see the evidence of David’s faith in many of the Psalms and his love for God and His word. If you are facing challenges in your life and you are tempted to despair look to God as David did and place your full trust in Him alone. You will find peace and the strength to move forward knowing the Lord is with you.

Since we last wrote, we have had some significant events with the Rafiki Institute of Classical Education (RICE) Program and the Outreach Program. On June 28, RICE held it’s fourth graduation ceremony. Six of our graduates were honored with a wonderful program. Normally one or two staff of our parent university, Justo Mwale University, join the proceedings, but this time seven of the administrative staff and academic faculty joined the program.

In July, Rev. Dr. William Zulu, who has been a long-time friend of Rafiki and former General Secretary of the Reformed Church in Zambia, joined our staff as Outreach Field Liaison. He is using his many associations to promote the use of the Rafiki Bible Study and the Rafiki Classical Curriculum in churches and Christian schools.

From the beginning of Rafiki’s ministry in Africa, we have been emphasizing that the Rafiki Villages would be for training Africans to transform Africa for Christ. In the early days of the Rafiki Village Zambia, around 2007, trainings were held for teachers in the Rafiki Bible Study. It was a short-lived program. A few weeks ago the training component was revived when seven teachers from Mapalo Trust School in nearby Chongwe town received training in the use of the school curriculum and the Rafiki Bible Study. The demand for God-centered schools with competent teaching has increased in Zambia and we expect to be holding more trainings in the future.
