1 Thessalonians 5:11-15
We have recently been studying Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians. In it, the apostle Paul urges the Thessalonians to support one another and work hard! Many times when we talk about our work at Rafiki, people are surprised that there are “only” 5 missionaries. Yes, we all work hard, and there are still jobs that missionaries could do, but we are backed up by a strong team of sixty-two faithful national workers, some of whom have been here since day one. As we work shoulder to shoulder to fulfill the mission of Rafiki, we are constantly in training mode; all of us working to learn, grow, and improve in our own service to the Lord whom we serve. Let us show you some of the ways we train our staff in order to train up the children in the way they should go.
Staff Bible Study
Not just the children, but every staff member is involved in daily Rafiki Bible Study. The most common response when asked why they enjoy working at Rafiki is the spiritual growth they have seen in their own lives as a result of the Bible study. They consequently are able to discern truth from fiction and deception in the community.
Biblical Counseling
Catherine started in the kitchen ten years ago, became the kitchen supervisor and then the ChildCare Administrative Assistant where she has served for over seven years. Stephen began as a casual laborer when the Village was being built, became a security guard, then laundry supervisor. Finally he and his wife agreed to be the boys’ residence hall parents in 2012 and he also supervises the Village maintenance team. We recently sent them to a week long biblical counseling seminar and they came back hoping to share with all the caregivers and even other staff members.
Catherine and Stephen
In addition to our on-site team, we also have supporters (like you!) who give financially and prayerfully towards this work. God blessed Rafiki Kenya with a good donation for the creation of a soccer pitch and track! It is still in process but we look forward to green grass and loads of fun in the future. (If you would like to donate toward some of that lovely grass, please contact Home Office)
Please continue to pray for both missionary and national workers for indeed “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few”. Also pray that we continue to train and equip godly leadership to work both inside and outside of the Village.
