McKeighen Dec 2018
As we draw near to the end of another year and we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, the word that comes to mind is “glory.” Each morning in the Rafiki Village Ghana, we pray that God will open hearts to His Word; that this work will bring glory to His name and His kingdom will be increased. Days become weeks and weeks become months and we pray on. “In him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4). His light illumines our hearts. Jesus Himself said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life ” (John 8:12). The “Lord of the harvest” has called us to labor and we press on striving to glorify Him.
This month students are working hard to finish their school year well. Primary students are memorizing parts for our Christmas recitation, Junior High students are preparing for a regional quiz that we will host in our RICE building. Seniors are planning their graduation, the fifth graduation for this Village. Remodeling of a cottage is being done to allow for more classrooms and additional labs are being set up in the secondary school buildings. Resident children have taken on the responsibility of maintaining the Village landscape and keeping their environment beautiful. My back yard has turned into a banana farm, and fresh off the tree they are pretty good. For the first time I have been able to start avocado trees from seed and keep them alive. Just think in five years someone may be eating avocado from them. This reminds me of the parable of the sower and I pray that the seed (the Word of God) falls on good soil in this place. It also reminds me that some plant and others water, “but only God who gives the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:7). And so I pray again that God will bless the labor with fruitfulness far greater than my back yard.
I wish to again thank you for your continued prayers and support. I pray that the Lord will make your labor fruitful as you work in His vineyard. As Paul reminds us,“He who plants and he who waters are one… For we are God’s fellow workers ” (1 Corinthians 3:9). So let us work together to “Declare his glory among the nations” (Psalms 96:3).
