Lam December 2021

Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful ” (James 5:11).

God who is compassionate and merciful has revealed over and over again his purposes for the 23 years he has given me in Africa with Rafiki Foundation. I look back on those years and thank God for how He got me through and the things I have learned about Him and about myself. His heart is gentle and lowly. His ways and wisdom are completely opposite to what the world offers. Give thanks with me to the Father for all that He has enabled and empowered us to do. Us because YOU have been a very significant part of my life in three Rafiki Villages—prayer, financial support, encouragement, and sharing. He continues to shape my faith and deepen my joy as I release His work into His hands. He will accomplish His purposes for Rafiki Village Malawi and all Rafiki Villages in Africa!

I retired at the end of November 2021 and returned to my home country, Singapore. God sent me to the mission field—not to change Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi—not necessarily to disciple others, or even evangelize—but, as the Bible says, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

I am thoroughly blessed. Better is one day in His courts (three Rafiki Villages) than a thousand elsewhere.

If you are seeking to serve God, may I encourage you to get on board with Rafiki in Africa where the young men and women desperately need God’s people to teach, to train, to walk with them, and to help them learn His ways and wisdom. Contact Rafiki at www.rafikifoundation.org.

Rafiki Village Uganda celebrating my 20 years in Africa on 30 January 2018

It was a colorful and noisy parade down the Village highway. I was crowned and rode on a throne in the Village pick-up truck. Kelly Fore, Patti Lafage, and Beth Smith staged this amazing event for me. We had a party afterwards. Those were the days! I left a piece of my heart behind in Rafiki Uganda.

Teaching the Rafiki Bible Study to the national workers

I was visiting with a partner church leader in Blantyre in the search of universities for our first cohort of GL12 graduates. The partner church leader agreed to come alongside to be available to mentor our graduates in the universities in Blantyre, southern Malawi.
