Kucko Dec 2019

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him” (Psalm 28:7).

I send my love and thankfulness to all who enable me in so many different ways to serve the Lord here at the Rafiki Village Ghana. As the school year here comes to a close soon with exams and senior graduation, it is about to get quite as busy as the holiday season is there in the U.S.

The Senior Secondary School graduation will be December 7 with a celebration afterwards which their extended family members have been invited. As that day comes to a close, the graduates will be re-unified with their extended family and will be leaving the Village to stay with them. In a near future time, these graduates will return to the Village and decisions will be made with them regarding post-secondary education based on their national exam scores.

New university graduate!

Christmas shopping here has already taken place as the seniors polled the young ones as to their desired gifts and then went out with the boys buying for boys and girls buying for girls within a given price range. Then, an evening is set aside for any necessary assembling of a gift and the wrapping. It is most enjoyable to see and hear the chatter and joy amongst these older boys and girls as they put batteries in and check if all is working well for the young one they thought about and purchased the gift for.

In mid-December, the school break begins for four weeks this year. Most of the children will then go to their verified relatives for the bulk of the school break. Most likely, there will be a few children here during that time and there will be some special activities for them.

Over the last few months, the children organized several soccer teams amongst themselves and played some leagues. It became a good time of teaching leadership and sportsmanship as well as fun for those playing and watching. Then a banquet was planned and organized by the children with awards and a video they were helped to make by a recent graduate. There are quite a few of our girls that have an eye for flower arranging and decorating and have frequently decorated the birthday tables for their brothers’ and sisters’ special days. When they decorated the banquet table for the leagues, I was struck by their eye for design, beauty, and perfection, and tried to capture that in pictures before it got messed up with trophies and awards.

The beautiful table decorations from our students

Please pray with us that this time of traveling will be safe and that the children’s family relationships will deepen and also that the children who know the Lord as their Savior will bear witness to those they are visiting.
