Rafiki Village Kenya front gate

We have an exciting opportunity coming up that we would like to share with you. The Rafiki Foundation has accepted us as missionaries and we will be serving in the Rafiki Village Kenya. This 30-acre Village has an orphanage, a pre-K through twelfth grade classical Christian school, and an accredited teacher training college. The classical Christian school has been established for the poor and impoverished children from the community and the orphans that live in this Village. Rafiki’s goal is to train Africans to be leaders of tomorrow by providing Bible Study, Education, Teacher Training, Orphan Care, and a Widows Program.

Last year we found ourselves at a place where we were not sure what God wanted us to be doing. Lisa was finishing her Masters in social work and Del was between careers. So we started a forty-day prayer challenge. Our prayer was for God to show us what He wanted us to do with our lives. We were led to the Rafiki Foundation and decided to attend a mission training weekend to seek out information on short- and long-term missions. We attended the training and felt led not only to serve a short-term mission, but to start praying for the opportunity to serve a long-term, two-year commitment. So we embarked on a three-week mission to Nairobi, leaving this past September 18. During our time there, God continued to open doors and answer our prayers confirming that He wants us to go.

The plan at this time is for Del to be helping with the maintenance of the property and equipment at the Village. Lisa will be filling in as needed assisting in the Village daily needs. We do not have a specific time yet that we will be departing for Nairobi. We will be doing TREK, an online missionary training course through January, and then traveling to the Rafiki Home Office located in Florida this February for Survival Camp. We hope to depart for Africa soon after that.

There are two ways you can join us on this mission. First of all, will you pray for us? We believe that this is the primary need, and from prayer will flow all other support. Rafiki will put together a list of people who will be receiving our prayer newsletters. Please be praying that the preparations for going to Africa will go smoothly and that God will lead us as we make decisions.

Secondly, will you consider supporting us financially? We need to raise the finances necessary for us to go out to the field. All contributions for our support are to be sent to The Rafiki Foundation and are tax deductible.

The best way to join us in either of these options is go to rafikifoundation.org, select Give Now, select Support A Missionary, then search for our names. There you can send us a note, sign up for our newsletter, or give to us financially.

Many of you have expressed words of encouragement, promised prayer support, and have asked about financial support; this has been so encouraging. Thank You! we are looking forward to partnering with you in serving.
