Jackson Sept 2020
Accept
Every year I meditate and pray for a one-word goal for the new year. The Lord placed on my heart the word accept and to stop running from the person He has equipped and called me to be because of fear, anxiety, or what it would mean if I accepted the role He called me to. Every day the Lord demands more of me, to give more of myself for His glory, to accept my circumstances, governing authorities, shortcomings, gift, talents, and more.
Mary and me, a Rafiki graduate
I must first apologize that I have not sent an update since pre-COVID. This has been a season of constant change, stretching, and growth.
Personal updates: The Lord continues to show me my great need for Him and His faithful love towards me. In April, I was officially named Headmaster of the Rafiki Secondary School here in Kenya. It took me about two months to trust the Lord and prayerfully accept the position. I’m glad I did, because it has challenged me to grow beyond what I thought possible.
We have been studying Exodus in the Rafiki Bible Study with the resident children here. The Lord repeatedly promises to make Himself known to His people. He reminds us of who He is, demonstrates His power, and His faithful perfect provisions for us. That who He is, has never and will never be dependent on who we are. I love that. God’s character has not changed and will remain the same forever. Its been such a blessing to rehearse these truths with the children every morning.
Village updates: School is still out. There is speculation about school resuming in January. We will see what the Lord does. In the meantime, we have had different opportunities to attend a classical education conference online and provide teachers with further training in classical education. We implemented project-based learning activities for our resident students which gave our teachers the opportunity to enhance their teaching craft by providing the children with enriching educational opportunities. Some of these opportunities include business etiquette, Kiswahili debate, Kenya culture, entrepreneurship, leadership, magazine writing, experiments, life skills, sewing, and more. Organizing and structuring learning opportunities for 55 students has kept me busy. However, the students and teachers are growing, learning, and thriving which is so good to see.
We have been blessed to be able to do church here at the Village together, Sunday school, worship led by the students, and live-streamed sermons. And on Monday evenings I lead a young ladies prayer group with senior high school and graduate girls.
