“But by the grace of God I am what I am…” (1 Corinthians 15:10).

Dear support team,

But by the grace of God I am what I am…” These words from Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:10 have provided me with comfort and confidence as I have been stretched and challenged in more ways than expected during my first month in Kenya. I jumped right into the classrooms, observing teachers across subjects (not just PE), teaching preprimary physical education curriculum to college students, assisting and organizing end-of-year recitations, assisting with administrative work, participating in Bible studies, coaching basketball, training coaches, and more. About two weeks in, I was feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. A mentor reminded me that though I was feeling inadequate, it is “by God’s grace that I am who I am.” He is always with me. He knows me inside and out, when I rise (encouraged, ready, and willing) and when I lie down (discouraged, ready to give up); and yet, He still called me and chose me, for such a time as this, to be here in Kenya. Everyday He faithfully confirms my calling here, showing me that my gifts and talents are needed.

My favorite part has been my time with the residents in the Village. Twice a week, I have dinner with a different cottage and participate in Bible study (which several have asked me to lead). I’ve had many opportunities to share how God alone transformed my life for His glory. The children and teachers ask many questions about how I came to be a missionary. A few teachers and house mothers expressed how comforting my story is and how encouraged they were by Christ’s work in my life.
