Jackson May 2021

School has restarted and I am in my second term as headmaster. I learned much about the needs of the secondary school as well as the immediate needs of the teachers. In my first term, I was able to focus on Bible study with the teachers focusing on their hearts. We had small groups to allow for deeper conversations, challenging teachers in how they think about the Lord, what truths they understand, and their ability to articulate those truths to students. Teachers continue to grow in the knowledge and love for God’s Word. They are seeking more of Him daily and we praise God for how He has used me with them. I also worked with them last term on discipline as discipleship. Discipline situations reveal a lot about the heart of the teacher, so they continue to learn much about themselves, and are being transformed by the Word of God. He is transforming their view of discipline, that they would no longer see it as a chore, but an opportunity for character formation.

As this term continues, there is much work still to be done. I have dived deeper into training teachers on how to teach and assess students classically whilst integrating the Rafiki classical Christian curriculum with the Kenyan national curriculum. My days are long. Please pray for diligence, patience, wisdom, and for me to lead and love them well and that I always seek understanding first. Also, that I will be prayerful always in my efforts and not try to be self sufficient. The Head of Schools is going on furlough mid-June through September. Please pray for me as I prepare to oversee the whole school—preschool through grade twelve.

Personally, the Lord has been very gracious to Paul and me in our first month of marriage as we put into practice what we learned in premarital counseling. The journey thus far has been challenging at times but so fruitful and full of joy. He is in his first year of school pursuing his degree in theology as we continue our work with Rafiki. I am finishing my first term of biblical counseling within the next couple months. Please pray for diligence in our studies, and perseverance in our work, and that we would be a help and support to each other as we live together with understanding and love.

Also we praise the Lord that our seniors were finally able to finish the term and graduate high school after the long wait due to the COVID lockdown last year. They completed national exams and are in the process of finding tertiary programs to attend.

I always thank God for you, for your consistent love, prayers, and support.
