Harbick Apr 2018

Dear friends and family,

We are ready for the seasons to change! March saw the first rains that the Village has experienced in almost six months. I must admit that I walked out of my house and just stood there and thanked God for the refreshment it brought to the earth and plants and people. Within two days the sand and dirt were back in the air hiding the mountains that surround the Village.

A new term began in January and we admitted eighteen new RICE students. Many come from different states in Nigeria, including those sent by our partner denomination NKST. They have their offices in Benue State, and I was asked to travel there to meet with the church leadership and to see the University of Mkar. We left the Village at 9:00 a.m. and arrived at the church offices at 4:30 p.m.

We are praying that God will open the way for not only RICE Teachers College students but also for our Rafiki children to have the University of Mkar as a possible choice for study, as well as Bingham University.

Our nine graduates from the Rafiki senior secondary three are in the midst of their Nigerian high school exit exams. They are expressing confidence thus far. They have already taken the exam for entry into higher education institutions and all qualified. We could double the number of university students this year!

Our gardeners have been working diligently to plant trees and flowers everywhere around the Village and RICE complex. We know that the rains are coming as the flowering trees are in bloom. The green that you see is where the new drip irrigation delivers water to the plants during the night.

Thank you for enabling me to be here and to be a part of God’s work in Nigeria!

Serving together,

Susy Harbick
