Esther Honegger

Esther Honegger’s first experience with the Rafiki Foundation was a short-term mission trip to Malawi in 2012 with her college church. Though she never planned to become a missionary, this visit gave her a glimpse into the way God is working in the lives of his saints in Africa and expanded her understanding of how the Lord’s joy is his people’s strength. When Esther heard God’s call to mission work a few years later, she gravitated towards Rafiki because of their care for the whole person: physical, educational, and spiritual, with God’s Word at the center.

Esther served as a missionary with Rafiki from 2016 to 2017, working in the Childcare program and school. She returned for a 3-month visit in early 2020 and decided to resume full-time mission work when she saw that the opportunities for ministry at the Rafiki Village were not limited as they were in the USA during lockdowns. Esther currently serves in the Rafiki Village Ethiopia where she teaches, coordinates activities for the residents, assists in the Childcare program, and mentors the youth. She is grateful God has given her the opportunity to make an eternal investment in the lives of some of his precious children.

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good"  (Titus 2:11-14).
