Orphan to Law Student: Uriah's Transformation Story

Orphan to Law Student: Uriah's Transformation Story

By the time Uriah was two years old, both his father and mother had died. He then went to live with his elderly grandmother, but she was unable to provide for his needs and education. Since there were no other relatives to raise Uriah, social welfare recommended him to Rafiki. Uriah joined his new family at the Rafiki Village Nigeria in August 2004.

Soon after arriving, Uriah displayed an exuberance about life and learning. On his first Sunday at the Village, Uriah was very excited to be going to church with his whole Rafiki family. He went to the school for the first time with a “ready for anything” approach. As a student, Uriah was smart and eager, and he showed a willingness to learn many new things. He always sought to please his teachers, and through his excellent study habits and good work ethic, he continued to improve and excel academically. Outside the classroom, he enjoyed working and playing outside and always had a big smile on his face. Uriah was a polite and enthusiastic boy and got along very well with the other children.

Now a graduate of the Rafiki School in Nigeria, Uriah is attending Bingham University to study law. The assistant dean of law at the university said Uriah is one of the top five students in his class. He is a good and intelligent student who receives excellent grades. He attends chapel regularly, makes friends with serious students, and is always punctual. Uriah has learned the importance of working hard in his studies rather than just relying on natural intelligence.

Uriah is determined to do well and make his sponsors proud. He is deeply grateful for the support of his sponsors and is inspired by them to invest in the lives of others. He desires to stay focused on God's purpose for his life by helping other people. One of the ways Uriah has found to do this is assisting other students with their studies; this opens the door for him to pray for them and share God’s Word with them. He also tries to reach out to people who have no friends.

As Uriah seeks the Lord’s direction in his future steps, he prays that he will not depart from the ways of the Lord. He is working on putting God’s Word into action in his daily life. Uriah is thankful for all God has done for him, especially allowing him to be at Bingham University studying law, and he prays that God will continue to mold him. He has come to realize the importance of loving God, and he seeks to continue to grow in his love for the Lord as he trusts and follows Him more.
