Peggy and Kent Martin

Serving In: Tanzania
External ID: 220

Peggy and Kent Martin have shared a love for science, health, and missions since they were married on December 20, 1993. They now serve in the Rafiki Village Tanzania where Kent is the dean of the teachers college (RICE) and Medical Director of the Childcare Program while Peggy serves as the Village Childcare Director. Peggy is also involved with finance, kitchen duties, and teaching at the teacher’s college.

Before serving full-time with the Rafiki Foundation, Kent was a medical doctor with a private practice in internal medicine in Louisiana. He also had a practice as an infectious disease consultant, and later as the Senior Vice President, at Sanford Health Systems. He was also a consultant in Moshi, Tanzania with Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and Rafiki. Peggy, having earned degrees in chemistry and medical technology, served as a laboratory director before serving for two years in Tanzania and two-and-a-half years in Ghana. Peggy also homeschooled their daughter and taught chemistry and biology homeschool classes to others.

Through their leadership positions in Bible Study Fellowship, Kent and Peggy felt called to continue sharing God’s Word with others during retirement. After being connected with Rafiki for years, they chose to serve as full-time missionaries because they loved studying and teaching the Scriptures and believed in Rafiki’s mission. They say that living in Africa has taught them about their need for a Savior and what total dependence on the Lord looks like. They have learned to appreciate God's gifts and to trust Him wholeheartedly as the serve together in Tanzania.
