Debbie Needham

Serving In: Nigeria
External ID: 165

As an educator, Debbie Needham’s passion and skill set is to care for and teach children. This was a perfect match with Rafiki’s goal of helping the “least of these” in Africa. She says that the call to missions was placed upon her heart at the young age of twelve!

Before serving full-time with Rafiki, Debbie was a teacher for over thirty years. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Education with an emphasis on Gifted and Talented and Curriculum Development. She served ten years at the Rafiki Village Malawi and two years at the Home Office in Florida. She is now the Headmaster of the Rafiki Christian and Classical School in Nigeria.

Debbie says that living in Africa has greatly opened her eyes to the many blessings she experienced growing up in the United States. She is reminded to be grateful for things like the healthcare, education, bountiful opportunities, and exposure to Christian doctrine she enjoyed. She says her eyes have been turned from worldly, temporal things toward spiritual, heavenly matters. She is more appreciative of the things she has and the importance of loving others, regardless of what they look like or where they live. She knows that being in the center of God’s will produces a life of rest and contentment. Ultimately, she says that Rafiki has been the greatest privilege she has ever been afforded: “Words are so insufficient to express all I have experienced and how I have grown in the Lord.”

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ”
(Philippians 1:3-7).

THURSDAY – Pray that I am able to show God’s love to the children, girls, and nationals that I serve (1 John 4:19).
