My Name is

Child Village: Zambia
Child ID: CF050
Mwaka’s aunt cared for her after both of her parents died. Her aunt is a widow and was already caring for six people in her home. They ate once a day, sometimes they had nothing. None of the children were in school. The family agreed that Mwaka should live at Rafiki Village Zambia. Mwaka arrived at her new home in August 2010. Now in grade 7, Mwaka says of herself, "I am surprised how much I have enjoyed learning about our bodies in science. Science, along with grammar, are my strong subjects." Mwaka is quick thinking. She can express herself well and is not afraid to ask questions. She has seen some ups and downs in her subject grades, and Mwaka is coming out of some indifference about her school work. She is turning that around and trying much harder to complete homework, prepare for tests, and participate in the skills of studying. Mwaka has more potential for growth, success, and lovely behavior than she realizes.
