Julie McKeighen

Serving In: Liberia
External ID: 193

Julie McKeighen has served with the Rafiki Foundation since 2009. She first served as the Headmaster in the Rafiki Village Liberia from 2009 to 2017, and she also became the Village Administrator from 2013 to 2017. She then moved to the Rafiki Village Ghana for two years, where she was the Headmaster. As of March 2019, Julie is back in the Rafiki Village Liberia working as both the Headmaster and Village Administrator.

Before she began serving with Rafiki, Julie was a school music teacher, church choir director, and the supervisor of clothing development and production in a historical reproduction company. She received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. Before becoming a full-time missionary, she went with Rafiki on a short-term trip to Uganda. She chose to serve with Rafiki because she has a heart for God’s orphans. Julie says that God used many means to affirm his calling upon her life. In fact, she says that those around her may have recognized her call to be a full-time missionary before she recognized it herself.

Julie says that living in Africa has convinced her of her need for the Lord. She is thankful that God has blessed her to serve him through full-time missions. The Lord has taught her the importance of humility; she is reminded that he is pleased with a broken and contrite heart. Julie has also experienced God’s continual provision while working on the field. She thanks the Lord that he continues to teach her to wait upon him while she serves in Africa, continuing to sanctify her in the Spirit.

“Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest”
(John 4:35).
