Lusubilo and Tom Maggio

Serving In: Zambia
External ID: 163

Tom Maggio has been a missionary with Rafiki since 2005, and he currently serves in Zambia with his wife, Lusubilo. In his time with Rafiki, Tom has had many roles: Village Administrator, Plant Manager, and Village Finance Administrator. Before joining Rafiki, Tom worked in Houston, Texas as a physical therapist for The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research. He received a bachelor’s degree in commerce and engineering science and master’s degrees in management and physical therapy.

Lusubilo Maggio studied in Cuba, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. She has been employed by the Republic of Zambia as a planner in the Ministry of National Planning since 2009. She is currently working on a master's degree in economics at the University of Zambia.

Tom first felt called to full-time missions after meeting other missionaries, joining a Rafiki prayer group, and going on a short-term trip with Rafiki to Ghana. He valued Rafiki’s vision for helping people in Africa learn about God and improve their standard of living, and he felt confident in Rafiki’s doctrinal foundation. Since living in Africa, he has learned to rely on God and has grown in the knowledge and peace of God as he leads others in daily Bible study.

Tom and Lusubilo were married in 2014, and they now enjoy serving in the Rafiki Village Zambia together. They first met at Lusubilo’s church, Kabwata Baptist Church. They met again at a church conference two weeks later. They met again a week later at a government office! They couldn’t help but wonder: is there a reason I keep running into this person? The Lord clearly had plans for the couple to serve together for his glory in Africa.

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
