Amy Ketcham and Tekle Kumera

Serving In: Ethiopia
External ID: 182

Amy and Tekle were married in August 2016 after meeting at the Rafiki Village in Ethiopia. They now work together as Rafiki missionaries. Amy is the Village Headmaster and Orphan Care Administrator, and Tekle is the Village Administrator. The couple says they were initially interested in serving with the Rafiki Foundation because they believed in the foundation’s mission to teach, train, and equip students and teachers to be spiritual leaders in their communities.

Before serving with Rafiki, Amy and Tekle were both teachers. Amy received her undergraduate degree in English from Drew University and her master’s degree in special education from Boston University. Tekle holds a master’s degree in language arts (English and Afan Oromo). Amy has served full-time with Rafiki since 2008, and Tekle has served since 2014.

While Tekle is Ethiopian by birth, Amy says that she has learned many things while living in Africa. She notes that she always checks for spiders in her shoes before putting them on, and she can drive in the middle of traffic packed with cars, buses, trucks, people, and livestock. Moreover, she has learned about her own need for a Savior. Together, Amy and Tekle have learned about the richness of God’s gracious provision while serving at the Rafiki Village Ethiopia. Their service is a picture of God’s faithfulness to His people.
